The Higher National Diploma in Information Technology (HNDIT) program at the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) was developed and commenced in the year 2000 with the objective of producing the middle level IT professional required for the new millennium.

What is HND in IT? ↕

Higher National Diploma in IT is being conducted as full time and part time with the duration of 2 ½ years and 2 years respectively. The full time course has 2 year course work and 06 months implant training in specialized fields where as the part time course has 2 years course work only.


What is a HND qualification? ↕

An HND is equivalent to the second year of a Bachelors degree. It takes two years of full-time study to complete, or two and half years for part time, and is designed to equip you with the skills relevant to your career.


Is HND in IT a good qualification? ↕

Yes, It is a good qualification as you can aquire job in IT industry after completing the Diploma.

There are so many vacancies in private and public sectors for HND It, as it is considered to be a good qualification.
You can also become IT teacher in government schools, If you sit for a teaching examination.


Can I do a degree if I have a HND in IT? ↕

And as HND is equivalent to the second year of a Bachelor's Degree program. Therefore, after completing the HND, students can also enter into the third year of specified Degree programs (Top-up degree).
And after HNDIT, you will also have exemptions on 1st Year subjects of BIT ( Bachelor of Information ) in Moratuwa University, Sri Lanka.


Entry Profile

The applicants should have one of the following :

1. Successful completion of GCE A/ L ( Mathematics, Bio Science or Commerce (Preferable), Technology and Art streams )

AND

2. Ordinary passes for English and Mathematics at the G.C.E (O/L).

No course fees are levied for full time course. Course fees for the part time students will be Eight thousand Rupees ( Rs 18,000 /-) per semester.

All duly filled applications should be directed to the relevant Advanced Technological Institute under a registered cover with a receipt obtained by crediting Rs 500 / - to the SLIATE account No 025-2-001-1-3397613 at peoples Bank, Park Street Branch ( Colombo) or any other branch of Peoples Bank in Sri Lanka.

Selection Test

Selection Method Short listed applicants will have to sit for a written test and face an interview for the selection. The selections of the students will be based on the merit performance in both written examination and interview.

The number of students to be recruited will be decided by the relevant institutes according to the availability of resources.

The decision of the Director General SLIATE will be the final decision on the admission of the students.

Date, Time and Venue of the interview and written examination and the necessary documents to be submitted in the interview will be notified in writing after receiving all the applications.
